Triple H vs. Randy Orton – WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Royal Rumble 2005

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Triple H defends his title against Randy Orton: Courtesy of the award-winning WWE Network.

Royal Rumble (2005) was the eighteenth annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was presented by PlayStation 2 and took place on January 30, 2005, at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California and featured talent from both the Raw and SmackDown! brands. As has been customary since 1993, the Royal Rumble match winner received a match at that year's WrestleMania, (in this instance: WrestleMania 21) for his choice at either the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship.

Five professional wrestling matches were featured on the event's supercard, a scheduling of more than one main event. The main event was the annual 30-man Royal Rumble match, which featured wrestlers from both brands. Batista, the twenty-eighth entrant, won the match by last eliminating John Cena, the twenty-fifth entrant. The primary match on the Raw brand was Triple H versus Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Triple H won by pinfall after performing a Pedigree. The primary match on the SmackDown! brand was a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship between reigning champion John "Bradshaw" Layfield, Kurt Angle, and The Big Show, which JBL won by pinning Angle after performing a Clothesline from Hell. For the first time since The Wrestling Classic, no tag team match was featured on the card.

Filmmaker Adam Stephen Kelly takes flight at pro wrestling event

Award-winning writer and director Adam Stephen Kelly (DONE IN, KILL KANE) was a special guest at this past weekend's KAPOW pro wrestling event in West Sussex, England, and ended up involved in the action!

Kelly, best known for the critically-acclaimed DONE IN and vigilante thriller KILL KANE starring Vinnie Jones, was introduced to the live crowd by fan-favourite Priscilla - the self-professed Queen of the Ring and star of TNA British Boot Camp on Challenge TV - but quickly earned the ire of the villainous Karl Atlas.

Later in the show, things came to a head during a huge six-man tag team main event when Kelly was viciously attacked in an unprovoked assault by Shar'kuul and his partners HIIT. Moments later, however, Kelly found himself alone in the ring after being saved by the likes of Major Lee Buff and El Technico Supremo. With the wrestlers battling at ringside, the filmmaker took the ultimate leap of faith to exact revenge on his attackers!

KAPOW is a professional wrestling promotion based in the south of the UK, with a focus on big characters, bold colours and family-friendly entertainment. The company is part of the British wrestling revolution, with the industry drawing its biggest crowds and highest popularity in decades. This month, ITV is reviving its legendary programme World of Sport for a one-off primetime television wrestling special.

"NWA SuperBrawl" Returns to Columbus on October 1st!

The legacy continues as the National Wrestling Alliance - in cooperation with its great Georgia promotions - have brought back the iconic "NWA SuperBrawl" with an awesome pro wrestling card.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday - October 1st in Columbus Georgia at the Columbus Civic Center - the card is topped off by an NWA World Heavyweight Title Match as World Champion "GODZILLA" JAX DANE defends the championship and the "Ten Pounds of Gold" against the challenge of former NWA North American Champion - the dangerous "GUNNER" PHIL SHATTER.

"This most likely is JAX DANE's most serious challenge to date," stated NWA President Bruce Tharpe, who will be in Columbus personally on October 1st to witness this historic contest. "In one corner you have the defending champion who stands 6-foot 6-inches and weighs over 300-pounds. "GODZILLA" JAX DANE has been the NWA World Champion for just over a year and has literally dominated all opposition."

"But in the other corner you have the hungry challenger "GUNNER" PHIL SHATTER who has wrestled all over the world and may have the edge in reach and experience. GUNNER wants his chance to be at the top of the wrestling world. We may very well see a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion crowned on October 1st in Columbus."

In the exciting Semi-Final Event: RICK and SCOTT STEINER make their return in a special match against the IWGP Tag Champions from Japan! The NWA Ladies World Title will be defended - as well as five more awesome matches.

Dolph Ziggler def. Bray Wyatt to retain No. 1 contendership to the WWE World Championship at SummerSlam

Accepting Bray Wyatt’s challenge from earlier in the show, Dolph Ziggler put his SummerSlam No. 1 contendership up for grabs in the SmackDown Live main event.

The Showoff and The New Face of Fear went at it full tilt from start to finish in a knockdown, drag out brawl, until, in the final moments, Ziggler exposed the steel underneath the top turnbuckle, which he eventually smashed Wyatt’s head over, allowing him to connect with a superkick and pick up the hard-fought victory to secure his chance at glory.

After the match, Dolph’s celebration was short lived as Erick Rowan attacked the No. 1 contender out of nowhere.

The Lunatic Fringe, watching from the commentary desk, refused to stand for the ambush and attempted to help his now confirmed SummerSlam opponent. However, the darkness of Wyatt and Rowan proved too much to handle, as they threw Ambrose out of the ring and Wyatt struck Ziggler with Sister Abagail.

When the smoked cleared, the horrific contingent stood triumphant over a prone Ziggler and Ambrose.

NWAOnDemand.com Releases More Historical Footage!

Quickly becoming the source for vintage historic matches, NWAOnDemand.com has done it again releasing footage of what is believed to be the only DUSTY RHODES - BRUISER BRODY singles match in existence!

The footage from Houston consists of 17-plus minutes of amazing action from August 11, 1978. This is what the independent wrestling experts had to say:

" This is . . . the only singles match between these 2 ever to make tape. 1978 Dusty is loaded with charisma and is in pretty good shape. He even throws an awesome drop kick in this. I enjoyed early in the match Brody's stooging. Dusty's charisma carried this. Their were moments where Brody would turn it on and came across as a force of nature . . . this is a true treasure and a piece of history."

"Now . . . the Dusty vs Brody match. First of all, we think think this is the only Dusty vs Brody singles match we have. There's 7 mins of a FL tag with Dusty and Reed vs Brody and Studd, but this is one of the most historical things that On Demand has given us as of yet, strictly on paper. 17 minutes, 2/3 falls. I've relatively liked what I've seen of 78 heel Brody, before that first face turn. He stooges, he sells, he gives. He uses his lanky body to full effect tumbling this way or stumbling slowly down or flailing his arms about, or even positioning them up menacingly. I do think the match died a bit when he was on offense, but Dusty was quick to come back."

"In short, Dusty was electric with every little thing he did, and he did a few things I've never seen him do before, like the double axehandle that he fell down on or setting up for the Shattered Dreams '78 (which was the transition to Brody taking the first fall). I got such a kick out of him polishing off Brody's head before punching it and the sheer intensity that he took the second fall with was amazing to see. It's funny, but this was sort of worked like a modern CMLL Title match, with a back and forth first fall that ended with some escalation, a quick second revenge fall, and the a third fall with a lot of selling. The finish was a heat-saver but the post match had Dusty, again, being electric and I bet everyone went home happy. Unless I'm missing something, I'd call this hugely historical footage even if it wouldn't be the first match I'd suggest to people on the service. I'm very glad we have it."

Ultimate Warrior/Vince McMahon Heat Explained! | Wrestling Histories Chapter 10

Join Fin Martin (former editor of Powerslam) and Alex Shane (former British Heavyweight Champion) for the tenth chapter in WrestleTalk's podcast series Wrestling Histories.

Wrestlemania VII through to Summerslam 1991 saw the WWF focus on building a new, warpainted face for the company: The Ultimate Warrior. But things weren't as straightforward for Vince McMahon as they were with Hulk Hogan in the 80s. House show attendance was down, Warrior's matches varied drastically in quality, and the champion had no real contenders for his title. So why did the Ultimate Warrior experiment fail, and how did it start a real, backstage feud between him and the owner of the WWF?

National Wrestling Alliance Invades New York City!

After a very successful "Parade of Champions" Event during WrestleMania Week in Texas this year - the NWA continues its expansion North with the announcement of a new promotion "NWA Big Apple Wrestling" based out of New York City.

This gives fans on the East Coast - a longtime WWWF / WWE stronghold - the opportunity to see the hard-hitting competitive style that the NWA has become known for all over the world.

"We are very excited to welcome this new promotion to the NWA family," stated NWA Director of Operations James Beard.  "Our expansion into the Northeast opens up a brand new market for the NWA and we are very much looking forward to meeting the fans and providing them with an alternative product."

"New York City is just the first of several new markets the NWA has considered expansion into and we are also looking at eventually presenting events in Milwaukee, Chicago, Philadelphia, and we are currently planning another big NWA event for WrestleMania Week next year in Orlando."

This brings the total number of NWA-licensed promotions worldwide to 30.

Less than a year ago the NWA launched the extremely popular NWAClassics.com digital network that boasts the most extensive collection of vintage wrestling matches in existence.  Currently over 300 of the greatest matches in history are online - and only a small portion of the library has been released.

The NWA continues to enjoy a steady corporate growth and shows no signs of slowing down as it develops NWAClassics.com and uploads new content on a daily basis - as it continues to sign up new licensee promotions that are excited about promoting wrestling under the NWA brand - as it moves into larger markets such as New York and New Jersey - as its licensee promotions present bigger and better live events domestically - and as the NWA continues to develop merchandising and television broadcast contacts worldwide.

The Origin of The Bullet Club

The Bullet Club is a professional wrestling group, primarily appearing in the Japanese promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). In the U.S., the group appears most notably in Ring of Honor (ROH) and also in WWE as "The Club"

The group was formed in May 2013, when Irish wrestler Prince Devitt (Finn Balor) turned on his partner Ryusuke Taguchi and came together with American wrestler Karl Anderson and Tongan wrestlers Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga to form a villainous stable of foreigners, which they subsequently named "Bullet Club". Before the end of the year, the stable was also joined by three other Americans; The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) and Doc Gallows. Wrestlers from the Mexican Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) promotion have also worked tours of NJPW as members of Bullet Club, which led to the formation of an offshoot group named Bullet Club Latinoamerica in CMLL in October 2013. At the end of 2013, Bullet Club held both the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, while also having conquered three of NJPW's five annual tournaments. The stable marked a major turning point for the career of Devitt, a longtime fan favorite, who began his ascent out of the junior heavyweight division and into the IWGP Heavyweight Championship picture.

In April 2014, Devitt left NJPW and was replaced in Bullet Club by American wrestler A.J. Styles. The following month, Bullet Club received its first Japanese member, when Yujiro Takahashi joined and helped Styles capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The following June, members of Bullet Club also won the IWGP Intercontinental and NEVER Openweight Championships, meaning that the stable had now held all titles NJPW had to offer. When NJPW added a seventh title, the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship, at the start of 2016, Bullet Club quickly won that as well. The stable continued adding members, most notably Canadian Kenny Omega, who took over its leadership in early 2016, when Styles, Anderson and Gallows all left NJPW for WWE.
